1995 Defender 110 5 door County Station Wagon – “Big Ben” as he’s affectionally known. RHD. Epsom Green. 300tdi with r380 5 speed transmission and LT230 with hi/lo and center differential lock. This particular Defender checks all the boxes for us. Aside from a few dents and dings, it has a wonderful patina and shows very well for a 26 year old vehicle. The previous owner had it outfitted for his family for African safari’s with a long range fuel tank, snorkel, two full size spares and Brown Church roof rack. The odometer sits at 234k miles, most of those miles coming from long distance travels. A more recent weekend driver before being brought over from London where it passed annual MOT (vehicle safety, road-worthiness, emissions, etc.) every year.

When we acquired this truck, the center back seat had been replaced with a large built in cooler. While we loved the high back seats in the rear for comfort and safety, we weren’t able to find a high back seat for the middle. We rectified this problem with a standard low back seat as well as sourced two more low back seats to make a complete bench should the new owner want to convert back to an original configuration. Additionally, the rear boot had been converted into storage drawer system. We removed this and replaced with trooper seats and seats belts bringing the total seating space with seat belts to 9 individuals. Plenty of room for a big family!

Our inspection process showed us a very solid bulkhead and floor pans. Chassis was solid overall however needed some spots welded by the rear cross member. As is the case of most of these older Defenders, the doors were rusted through on the bottoms. After much deliberation, we decided to fix the doors by cutting out the cancer and welding in new steel rather than source replacements and risk losing the original charm of the vehicle with a full repaint. The end result is a very solid truck that retains all its originality.

The interior seating has been upgraded to high back seats for front and rear passengers while 4 can sit comfortably in the boot on the side troopy style seats. USB ports for charging electronics and bluetooth stereo with upgraded speakers give it a little civility for long drives. There is also an interior map light with manual sunroof. The locking steel center console secures the radio head unit and allows for robust security of valuables and stores an extra fuse box with spares. A dual battery setup is present under the passenger seat with a split charge system.

Up front the winch bumper protects the front end and houses a winch. The rear end has functioning rear work light with swing away rear tyre carrier, bumperettes with rear sill protectors and a rear ladder. Also in the rear are tow bar with electrics, rear step to access seating in the boot and a new cross member. Rear quarter panel windows are protected by Mantec. There are mud flaps at all four corners.

We conducted a full major service including new cam belt, new fluids throughout (radiator, transmission, tcase, front and rear diffs) and fresh spare tyre on the hood. This truck has been very well cared for as it drives as good as it looks and will afford its new owners a long life of service.
